Photo Facials
Apex now offers 3different laser devices for skin rejuvenation.
Using a combination of these systems, Dr. Engelhard will completely
customize your laser treatments to target your specific skin needs
and to accommodate your schedule. Laser facials are enhanced by
the use of other procedures such as microdermabrasion, Botox,
and Retin-A. Dr. Engelhard will recommend complimentary treatments
designed specifically for you.
The Cynosure Photogenica V Laser is a powerful tool for the treatment
of fine lines, acne, rosacea, and poor skin tone. The Photogenica
V is a Pulsed Dye Laser, very similar to the NLite laser, which
produces wavelengths of light strongly attracted to hemoglobin
(the red pigment in blood). Originally developed for the treatment
of small veins, this laser has been shown to increase collagen
production in the high layers of the skin and to have impressive
results when treating active acne and rosacea. Sun avoidance is
recommended, but not critical before and after treatments. A series
of 2 to 6 treatments is usually recommended for best results.
Lighter skin types see the best results with this laser.

The MediLux G Intense Pulsed Light system provides classic “photofacial”
treatments. This system is one of the best of its type on the
market, and it produces dramatic improvement in dark spots (“age
spots”), tiny blood vessels, rosacea, and general skin texture.
Tiny wrinkles and defects are also improved, but NLite and Cooltouch
are more impressive wrinkle lasers. MediLux G treatments may not
be appropriate for darker skin types, and the sun and tanning
products must be avoided for 4 weeks before treatments. Treatments
are only mildly uncomfortable and require no anesthetic preparation.
After treatment, the skin may be red or blotchy for several hours
to several days, and dark spots and blood vessels may actually
darken for several days before flaking off. A series of 2 to 6
MediLux G treatments may be recommended, depending on your particular
skin problems.

The Q-YAG 5 laser system was originally designed for tattoo removal,
but it is gaining popularity for skin rejuvenation. The Q-YAG
offers 2 different wavelengths of laser light to target both deep
and superficial imperfections in the skin. The Q-YAG is particularly
suited for the treatment of brown spots on light skin. Using the
Q-YAG 5 in combination with the MediLux G for a mega laser
facial produces the most rapid improvement of sun damage
on persons with fair skin.
